Care funding

The most commonly asked question is:  'Will I have to sell my home if I go into care?'

Having worked hard to afford their own property, many people feel upset at the prospect of having to sell their home to fund care rather than being able to leave it to their children or grandchildren as they might originally have intended.

The care package and funding that you receive will depend upon your individual circumstances and state of health.

You may not necessarily lose your property, but this will depend on how your affairs are organised and on how your property is owned.  With careful forward planning you can maximise the chances of retaining your property so that your children or grandchildren may inherit it. This is where you should seek our advice.

We are also asked : 'Is it best to transfer my property to my children?'  This is not such a straightforward solution as it may seem, and may in fact be seen as a deliberate attempt to deprive the local authority of means by which you might be able to pay for care.

We know that this is an emotive topic  and we have experience in both planning ahead to protect assets, and also in appealing to achieve a reduction in the individual's contribution towards the cost of care.

Recent successes for individuals have included a reduction in an individual's contribution from £455.00 to £13.95 per week.
